Natalie Tietjen ’18

Natalie Tietjen
Communication Studies and Public Health
West Caldwell, NJ
Year of Graduation: 2018

In the fall of 2017 Natalie was part of The Washington Center program and interned with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in Washington, D.C. She worked in an advocacy role and spent time on Capitol Hill speaking to legislators, attending hearings, and advocating for suicide prevention legislation.

I am applying for positions in Washington, D.C. and hope to move there and work in advocacy with a focus in mental health. Hopefully graduate school is to follow in a couple years.

Try to make connections with your professors as soon as you can! They are a great resource and are knowledgeable about internship connections and areas of research you may want to explore.

The School of Arts and Communication has allowed me to explore my many interests from human resources and organizational leadership, to research, and its pairing with my second major of Public Health. I have always felt supported by my professors and advisor in an effort to make me a better student, writer, and overall professional. The School of Arts and Communication has allowed me to make my major my own and has challenged me to try different paths to combine my different interests and passions. I look foward to giving back to the School of Arts and Communication as I begin my career and can pay it foward to future students, as current students and students of the past as well as professors have served as mentors and friends.
