Sunday in the Park with George is a show that looks at art, artists, and their struggle to express themselves, beauty, ugliness, and societal trends in ways that provoke serious thought about where we might be going as a people. Sunday reinforces the saying, ‘Plus ça change, plus ç’est la même chose’ (‘The more things change, the more they stay the same”’). This is an important warning to us all. The show implores us to dig deep down to access the best part of human nature and expression.
Inspired by the painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, Sunday in the Park with George, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s stunning masterpiece, merges past and present into beautiful, poignant truths about life, love and the creation of art. One of the most acclaimed musicals of our time, this moving study of the enigmatic painter, Georges Seurat, won a Pulitzer Prize and was nominated for an astounding ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
This event is ticketed and takes place on Kendall Hall Main Stage.
